Fox News’ Lawrence Jones revealed he underwent surgery Thursday after suffering a second detached retina, months after having the same procedure in January.
Jones, a co-host of “Fox & Friends,” announced his medical emergency in a statement posted to social media. The surgery required him to step away from his regular duties on the morning program.
What Happened
“Regrettably, I’ve sustained another retina detachment, which is common after the initial tear,” Jones wrote on X. “Yesterday, I underwent surgery again with the best care team.”
The latest procedure comes months after Jones had emergency surgery in January for the same condition affecting his right eye. Jones attributed his eye problems to an old sports injury from childhood.
Jones first experienced vision issues in late 2025 but initially did not seek immediate medical attention. After consulting a specialist in December, doctors determined he had a detached retina requiring urgent surgery.
His Previous Medical Journey
Following his January operation, Jones returned to “Fox & Friends” while still visibly recovering. “I’m glad I did because it ended up being something more serious,” Jones told People in February.
He chose to continue working during his recovery rather than take extended leave, allowing viewers to witness his healing process. That decision kept him visible on the program as he resumed his role alongside other co-hosts.

Jones expressed optimism about his recovery in his statement, saying “I’m optimistic that I’ll be back soon!” He did not specify a return date or provide details about his expected recovery timeline.
The absence marks Jones’ most prominent absence from “Fox & Friends” since joining as a permanent co-host in 2023, when he became the youngest Black co-host in cable news history.
Jones thanked his Fox News colleagues, network leadership, and viewers for their support during his medical treatment.
